History & Anecdotes

The variety was discovered in 1960 by Dominico Marchetti in his rice fields in Lombardy. The rice was named after his wife: Mrs. Rosa Marchetti. This variety is not largely cultivated due to its large size.

Do you know why a dragonfly is represented on the packaging? The dragonfly is a bioindicator of clean waters. Indeed, rice fields are the ideal environment for the life of dragonflies where they can reproduce and feed on insects. Because of insecticides, dragonflies have almost disappeared from the rice fields... but they are very present among Umile's farmers!
