History & Anecdotes

This variety is the result of selection work carried out between 1952 and 1979 by Dr Tinarelli. It comes from a selection from the Rizzotto variety then it is introduced in 1974.

Its name comes from the Basilica of Sant'Andrea located in Baraggia in Vercelli.

Do you know why a duck is represented on the packaging? Indeed, ducks can be used to weed rice fields. This is an ancestral Asian method used by monks and taken up by some organic farmers, especially in the Camargue.
